Another for Nora Roberts fansby: Zebeen
If you are a fan of Nora Roberts, this book will not disappoint. It has all the makings of a good Nora Robert’s novel: erotic sex, love, betrayal, mystery, suspense. Reece Gilmore finds herself in Angel’s Fist, Wyoming as a fry cook in a small diner owned by Joanie, which is a far cry from where she had been—at the top of her game in Boston and only one rung away from running her own restaurant, until one night when her life was torn to pieces by violence. After a stint in a psychiatric facility, she gets off her meds, gets into her car and drives where her gut takes her. But running away does not stop the nightmares or the panic attacks. She intends on making a new life at Angels Fist and decides to stay longer than she has in other towns she passes through. One of the draws is the beautiful landscape which envelopes her and one that makes her feel safe. The other draw is Brody, who is a murder mystery writer and loner and who is the object of gossip because of his eccentric lifestyle and guarded ways. One day while hiking into the mountain, she peers through her binoculars and witnesses a man kill a woman on the other side of the town. She tries to run down for help and bumps into Brody, who has a bit of trouble believing her story, but does not dismiss it entirely. He seems to be the only one who at least believes her enough to want to help her find the mysterious killer. When a body does not show up, and when there is no evidence to prove her story, the sheriff, along with other folks in town, think that Reece is losing it and her bizarre behaviour only seems to seal her fate. When she rents the apartment above the diner, strange things start to happen and Reece can only explain these strange occurrences to stress and memory loss, even though deep down she knows she is not losing her mind. But when the town unearths her secrets and when they pass judgment on her behavior, she has to rely on herself to prove that what she saw was in fact real and not a projection of her own violent past. The only person who seems to take her side is Brody, and he only does so after he himself witnesses the strange things going on in Reece’s apartment. Soon, Reece and Brody take their relationship to a different height. The passion between the two is a classic ingredient which makes all Nora Robert’s book a thrill to read. She choreographs the intimate act of love making beautifully. Throughout the book, you will catch yourself trying to guess which character in Angels Falls is behind not only the murder, but the mysterious events in Reece’s life. The other characters in the story all seem to be suspects and even if you think you know who dunnit, you may be surprised by the ending. The book is riveting, the characters are likeable, the story is believable, and the passion is heartfelt. Once again, Nora Roberts shows how a good book is written. You cannot go wrong with this read. |
