Whether you are throwing a curve ball or life throws you one, one thing is for sure, you need a coach in your corner who will be there to motivate you into becoming the best you can be; in life or in sports.

David Skibbins does a remarkable job in separating the therapist from a coach and equally remarkable is the way he explains how a therapist can get his patient off the couch and into life’s ring.

When you read his scenarios, one thing that becomes quite obvious is the fact that a coach can muddle through the gunk and with laser-like precision, pin-point the problem and a solution. Whereas in therapy, the solution becomes as clear as mud.

I read in awe how the author took a person’s problem and within minutes, was able to shed light on the situation. I found this quite uncanny. It seemed to me that he used not only intelligence, experience and training, but intuition as well. I wanted to learn more about David Skibbins and found an interesting tidbit of information—he reads the tarot and has written books about the subject. When I read that his name was associated with books on tarot, I wanted to confirm that he was the same person who wrote the life coach book and he is.

What I found quite helpful is this book can help any layperson start a life coaching practice. The book offers the reader concrete examples, useful tools and exercises, and is written in clear language. The book offers the reader everything she needs to know on how to get started as a coach—a business plan, reproducible worksheets and assessment tools, ways to help your clients identify their goals, purposes and values, as well as helpful marketing tools to help you expand your business.

I would recommend doing the worksheets and assessment tools so you know what will be expected of your clients. This way, you become clear on your own values, purposes and goals.

Happy coaching.
