Unhelpful flashbacks, thin characters disappointby: Sandra Pianin
Faith Fairchild is offered a dream job which quickly becomes a nightmare. She has been asked to cater a very small college reunion on an isolated New England island. When her dream job goes sour, Faith and some of the guests fall prey to a murderer. Through a twisting plot, Faith and the female guests learn that they have been invited to this island for all the wrong reasons. The women are angry because they have tricked! Some of them want to leave but learn that the only boat leaving the island will not return until the day after tomorrow. The island boat has been sunk, there is no telephone or radio to use to call for help, They are stranded! The killer begins their nefarious plan and one of the guests is found dead in the jacuzzi with an empty champagne bottle by her side. Katherine Hall Page is the author of the "The Body in" books. This is the Faith Fairchild mystery (thriller) series. The Body in the Ivy is promoted as a homage to Agatha Christie's "And Then There Were None." According to dictionary.com, a homage is a special honor or respect that is expressed publicly. Sometimes, an original novel cannot be duplicated, in any form, and such is the case with The Body In the Ivy. This book was very disappointing after having read others in the Faith Fairchild series. I think Ms. Page meant for this book to be funny and unfortunately for the reader, it is not. The long flashbacks throughout the novel are not helpful. The plot is gossamer thin and the characters include Faith Fairchild are one-sided and non-dimensional. |
